Students Use Reasoning Skills to Locate Hidden Natural Treasures
Working in teams, students use log and core data sheets to plot “strike” zones—and then actually drill for ore deposits. In the process, they will learn about where natural resources such as gold, gems, iron, and oil/gas are located in underground formations; and will explore geological formations such as veins, batholiths, volcanic pipe anticlines, pinchouts, salt domes, fault zones, and reefs. The self-contained activity is designed for over 1,000 student searches and is easy to store and maintain. It comes with one Drill Kit box that is used by the entire class, plus all drilling materials and a teacher’s guide with activity worksheets and handouts.
