Demonstrate how 64 different codons translate all amino acids.
Teach students the central dogma of genetic information storage and transmission by reinforcing the concepts of codons with this entertaining yet informative classroom activity. Each student team will randomly generate a codon by throwing three balls at a “nucleotide” dartboard. Once the three balls are thrown, they must determine the amino acid transcribed by the codon by referring to an amino acid sequence sheet. Points are awarded based on how common a particular codon is. This in turn will help them understand the degenerative nature of the genetic code. Size: 14.5" dia.
