Determination of Water Hardness Lab Activity (ScholAR)

Product Information

Water hardness is a measure of the amount of dissolved ions in water. The most common water ions are calcium and magnesium, and among other things, these ions prevent soap from forming a lather. The amount of calcium and magnesium in tap water can be determined by titration with an organic chelating agent, EDTA, and the use of an indicator that allows the equilibrium point to be determined. This experiment can be completed in 45 minutes and comes with enough materials for 15 setups.
